I decided to design this infographic to create greater awareness of electrical safety in the home. This is also a good opportunity to try and address some misconceptions about the usage of RCD (s).
From my experience working as an electrician, many homeowners struggle to identify an RCD (s).
As LED technology continues to grow and the energy efficiency is present in some cases a type AC RCD (s) are not suitable and may be left unable to operate in the manner in which it was designed. This is due to DC leakage from items such as LED lighting, washing machines, and dimmer switches.
I often inform clients that they should be pressing the test button every 6 months on the RCD (s) to confirm it does work (trip out) and to contact a registered, competent electrician if this is not the case.
